You're one step closer...to a brand new you.

You are probably on this website because you may be feeling despair or be frightened, angry, stuck and/or in suffering and that you tried everything and none of it worked. You may  feel emotionally dead or unable to control your emotions. You may be in grief, disbelief or shock. Your partner may have discovered your secret life and they are demanding immediate change and they are accusing you of being a "sex addict"! Or you may be the betrayed partner who no longer knows who their partner is and you are in shock. You may need a guide who provides professional knowledge about your situation, who has wisdom, and experience and is able to provide refuge, compassion, and understanding. You tried everything on your own and it hasn't worked. You may feel very alone. You're looking for a way out.  I remember looking for a therapist, and even though they were highly qualified with many therapeutic tools and years of experience, what was most important was they didn't shame me. That they believed that I was a good person and that they had a therapeutic road map. They not only taught me about being a client, they taught me about how to be a good therapist, and they were a powerful ally, a coach, a hand of compassion, a place of refuge for my tired confused, self-loathing soul to come home to. They taught me how to fly and how to create a nest for myself to come home to whenever I needed it. I will do the same for you, and give you life long tools to assist you in this difficult journey called life.

I have numerous professional tools and experience from being in full time private practice for 27 years to assist clients in their recovery from family of origin injuries (which includes neglect and trauma) and/or sex addiction. I have a Masters in Education (Counselling Psychology) from the University of British Columbia and a three year diploma from the Gestalt Institute of Vancouver.  I have completed Level I and II training in EMDR, and Level I and II of the Gottmans' training for couples, and I am a Certified Sex Addictions Therapist (Patrick Carnes).  It is Maureen Kitchur's brilliant Strategic Developmental Psychotherapy that provides the framewood for mapping out how I work therapuetically with clients.

My EMDR Training in 1998 prepared me to work with clients who have current and past, family of origin traumas.  A number of years ago, I inherited clients struggling with sex addiction from  a therapist who retired from his private practice. I began to work with couples, individuals, their partners and families who were living with the impact and shame of sex addiction. Fortunately, my training enables me to do a thorough assessment and professional testing (SDI) for sex and love addiction, and provides me with the tools to do trauma therapy using Gestalt and EMDR.  I added to my cluster of skills the well researched training program of Patrick Carnes and his colleagues to become a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist.

In the "How I Work" section of the website, I explain in more detail how I therapeutically work with clients who are struggling with sex addiction.

As stated previously, my goal is to provide you "a safe place", where you will be treated with compassion and respect. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. You cannot change your past but you do have control how you live in your present. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life. I will help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating.
